Cybersecurity is now required

RED-DA sets the standard

From 1 August 2025, every device with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, LTE or similar radio components sold in the EU must meet cybersecurity requirements under the Radio Equipment Directive of Article 3.3 (d), (e), and(f):

  • Protection of personal data
  • Safeguards against network misuse
  • Secure firmware and update handling

This isn’t just for new products. Any connected device sold after this date must comply and be CE-marked accordingly.

We help you assess your device, implement the required safeguards and prepare documentation in line with NEN-EN 18031.

Does RED-DA apply to your device?
Find out now.

1. Does your device communicate wirelessly (e.g. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LTE)?

RED-DA and NEN-EN 18031: what’s expected

To meet RED-DA, you need to embed cybersecurity into your design, prove it works, and document every step, aligned with NEN-EN 18031.

Risk-Based Design

Map threats, define controls, and document how your device mitigates them.

Secure Update Handling

Ensure firmware is signed, authenticated, and protected from tampering.

Verified Security Functions

Prove that critical features like access control and encryption work as intended.

Technical Documentation

Provide full CE documentation aligned with RED Article 3.3 and EN 18031.

Ongoing Protection

Include processes for monitoring, patching, and lifecycle security support.

CE Mark Readiness

Show that your product meets RED-DA requirements before it reaches market.

No compliance means no market access

From 1 August 2025, RED-DA becomes mandatory. If your product isn’t compliant, you can’t legally sell it in the EU.
Waiting too long can lead to:

  • Certification delays
  • Missed product launches
  • Risky or incomplete documentation

Early action gives you time to test, update, and prepare a solid CE package.
